Job Summary:

The Captain is the front line management position in our restaurants. The Captain acts as a team leader and is responsible for the smooth running of the Front of House in the absence of the Assistant Manager. The Captain also performs Waiter duties on the floor.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Provides excellent customer service to our walk-in and telephone customers
  • Assists with managing the day-to-day work of the serving staff
  • Assists in resolving customer and staff issues
  • May open or close the restaurant
  • Assists with scheduling and payroll
  • Assists with conducting staff performance reviews
  • Assists in monthly stock-taking and ordering Front of House products (bar, wine, coffee and disposable items)
  • Has extensive product knowledge and is confident in making suggestions and recommendations to customers
  • Delegates and ensures cleanliness of restaurant such as cleaning windows, resetting tables and refill of condiment dishes
  • May perform Waiter duties

Minimum Qualifications & Experience:

  • Two years’ experience as a waiter in a full-service, fine dining restaurant Associates Degree in Hospitality, Business or similar would be an advantage
  • Must be honest, reliable and demonstrate good judgement
  • Knowledgeable about wine and other beverages and takes initiative to learn about the different wines & and spirits
  • Full understanding and application of food safety and potential allergens i.e. nuts, gluten
  • Ability to learn and apply supervisory skills, including conflict resolution
  • Ability to think quickly and clearly in a high-pressure environment
  • Must be a team player, responsible, self-starter with a positive attitude
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
